Assignment 3

I cannot believe there are just a few days of class left!

I was able to interview my old boss, Ms. Ann Fuller, and my new boss, Ms. Cathy Griffith, for this assignment. It was really neat comparing the Lane Library at Armstrong Atlantic State University and the Jackson Library.

Good luck with the last few days!

Where did the time go?

Whew! It seems like yesterday we were starting this course! This is my first experience with Maymester and it has just gotten away from me. One more week!

Today I have been reading over the excellent discussion posts written by my peers and formulating my answers and responses. It is definitely a lot to keep up with, but when it's all over I know I'll be glad I took such a short course.

Tomorrow I will be posting my interview results from Assignment 3: Option 2

Joomla update

I got the skeleton of my Joomla account up and running (thank goodness). Now to customize...

Long weekend shenanigans

Hoping everyone had a great long weekend (if they got one). Unfortunately, mine didn't go according to plan! FYI, always use a case when transporting your laptop or you may end up with a cracked screen. Makes it a little difficult to do homework for a class based solely on technology.

Any-who, I'm back on track now and in the process of setting my Joomla up. So far so good, but we shall see.

This weekend has made me see just how important technology is for the future of education. Luckily, I was able to use my smart phone for discussion posts, emails, etc. But what if I didn't have one? What a hassle it would have been!

Library Wiki: part 2

Here is the library wiki page I started for the Jackson Library. All of the information is from the library website. I am hoping this is what it is supposed to look like! Go take a look!

Library Wiki

So, for my first assignment in my Applied Technology in Libraries course I have to create a Wiki. This is something I don't have any experience with, so I am kind of excited to learn something new. I chose to work with the library I work for, the Jackson Library at UNC-Greensboro.

Look for the link next post!

Here we go...

My first blog! How exciting. I am so pumped to start sharing some of my thoughts on libraries and technology with you guys. I am hoping that through this course I can pick up some useful information on how I can use technology in my current job and future as a librarian.

First off, I should let you know a little about what I do. I have crowned myself as the Search Queen here at UNC-Greensboro in Greensboro, NC. When someone can't find a book on one of our nine floors of stacks (yes, NINE!), I am in charge of finding it. I have three students who help me with this challenging task. Basically, we will search anywhere we can think of for a mis-shelved book, and it can be as simple as a PA 350 being shelved in the P 350s, or as crazy as a Q 76.9 being shelved with the G 76.9s. We never know! That's what makes it exciting.

As far as my Web 2.0 experience, I use it everyday. Whether I'm at work using our virtual reference chat system or at home checking out the latest cute cat video my sister sent me from YouTube, I am constantly using this technology.

Over the next few weeks I'll be posting things that I find relevant to MLIS 7505, and hopefully I'll get some feedback from y'all!

Stay tuned...
